What's up, neighbors!

Welcome to the first issue of Lewisville Lake Lookout. I’ve lived in the DFW all my life, but I moved near Grandscape about 3 years ago, and I fell in love with all these lake communities. I started this newsletter to connect to my community but also because I want to find events, restaurants, and local businesses right here instead of hopping on tolls to Dallas.

Speaking of events, Saturday looks awesome. ColorPalooza takes over Old Town Lewisville from 10 to 5, seven free hours of live art, food trucks, color toss, and local bands rolling through Wayne Ferguson Plaza. Wear white if you're committing to the color toss, wear something you can ruin if you're half-committing.

On Sunday, my partner and I are probably going to stay in, but a stroll around Doubletree Ranch Park sounds tempting as our Free Activity Idea of the week.

Full weekend planner, a 30-year-old BBQ joint on Mill Street, a Main Street leather shop you've walked past a hundred times, and a few spring listings worth a look are all below.

When you’re done scrolling, hit reply and tell me what you’re most interested in seeing in the future. This is Our Newsletter, and I read every reply.

Lewisville ColorPalooza

Wayne Ferguson Plaza
150 W Church St, Lewisville, TX 75057
Saturday, April 25
10:00 AM-5:00 PM
FREE

If there is one Saturday a year where Old Town actually feels like the heart of the lake, this is it.

ColorPalooza takes over Wayne Ferguson Plaza for seven hours of live art, food trucks, chalk walks, color toss, a wine garden, a kids zone, and local bands rolling through all day.

It is the closest thing Lewisville has to a hometown festival aka everyone you know will be there at some point between 10 and 5.

And it is FREE, which for a city-run event of this scale is kind of unheard of.

Wear white if you want to commit to the color toss, wear something you can ruin if you half-commit, and plan to park a few blocks out and walk in. See you on Church Street.

🍖 Sullivan Old Town BBQ

301 S Mill St, Lewisville, TX 75057

This is where I end up when somebody from out of town asks "where do I get real Texas BBQ around here." The answer is on Mill Street, in the old Old Town Meat Market building. Terry Sullivan has been smoking brisket in an actual pit with post-oak for 30 years, and you can taste the difference the minute it hits the plate.

The brisket is the move. Prime beef, fork tender, most people say skip the sauce. The jalapeño cheese sausage is the other thing regulars grab, and the mac and cheese and cornbread are the sides you will fight over. If you are feeding a crew, the "showin' off" platter is $40 for brisket, pulled pork, sausage, ribs, and four sides. Enough food for four adults easy.

Terry is going to come by your table at some point, and more than one family has reported the kids walked out with free ice cream. Worth knowing: they are only open Tuesday through Saturday, and Tue and Wed they close at 3. Most weekends there is live music.

🛍️ Odin Leather Goods

131 W Main St, Lewisville, TX 75057

You can buy a wallet anywhere. You can watch a craftsman cut, stitch, and finish one in front of you in very few places. Old Town Lewisville is one of them.

Odin Leather Goods is the retail store and manufacturing studio of Odin and Rachelle Clack. What started as a side hustle in 2012 (Odin got laid off at 10 AM and was back at his workbench by 11:15) is now a family-owned shop on Main Street. Belts, satchels, crossbodies, journals, valet trays, candles, and a whole wall of American-made goods curated to sit next to the leather. Everything built in-house in Texas using US-tanned hides.

They also run leathercraft classes where you stitch your own wallet or belt.

Park along Main and walk. Saturdays during ColorPalooza the whole street hums, and Odin's is an easy stop between the color toss and lunch.

🗳️ Early voting for the May 2 election starts Monday

Early voting for the May 2 uniform election runs Monday, April 20 through Tuesday, April 28. Locals have races on the ballot for Highland Village City Council (Places 1, 3, and 5), LISD Board of Trustees, and a few Lewisville ISD bond and charter items, depending on where you live. Flower Mound and Lewisville city races are also in play for parts of the coverage area.

Check your sample ballot and polling locations through the Denton County Elections site before you head out. The early voting window is the easiest stretch to avoid lines, and the last day to vote early is Tuesday.

🏗️ Flower Mound approves Fire Station No. 6 design as "Town Hall of the West"

Flower Mound Town Council approved the final design for Fire Station No. 6, a 21,444-square-foot facility going in at the corner of Canyon Falls Drive and Denton Creek Boulevard. Officials are calling it the "Town Hall of the West" because it will house a fire station, a police substation, and community meeting space all under one roof, serving the fast-growing western side of town.

The council is scheduled to vote on the construction contractor on May 4. Once that's locked in, construction can move forward on a facility the town has been planning to anchor service coverage west of FM 1171.

🏫 LISD names new PreK Center principal and Chief of High Schools

Lewisville ISD announced two leadership hires heading into the 2026-27 school year. Curt Angeli was named principal of the LISD PreK Center, moving over from his previous campus role. Chantell Upshaw was appointed Chief of High Schools, an executive-level position overseeing all LISD high school campuses.

Both appointments were announced April 13 and take effect for next school year. If you have a kid heading into PreK or high school in LISD, these are the names to know.

📪 Highland Village tightens rules on door-to-door flyers

Highland Village City Council gave first-reading approval (6-1) on April 14 to an updated ordinance limiting unsolicited advertising circulars at residents' doors. The rule requires flyers to be placed within 5 feet of the front door and prohibits leaving them loose on driveways or lawns. The second reading and final vote are scheduled for April 28.

If you've been annoyed by flyers blowing around the yard, this one's for you. If you distribute door hangers in Highland Village, take note of the new placement rule before it takes effect.

🛍️ Painted Tree in Highland Village closes without warning

The Painted Tree Boutiques location at Highland Village shut down on April 14 with almost no notice. All 42 Painted Tree locations nationwide closed the same day, and vendors at the Highland Village store were given roughly 8 hours to pack up their merchandise. Many local small-business owners rented booth space at the store, and the abrupt closure left them scrambling.

If you had items on consignment or a gift card, the company hasn't released details on refunds or claims. Watch for updates from former vendors who may be moving to other local markets.

🎢 Lava Island indoor play park coming to old JoAnn space in Lewisville

Lava Island, a new indoor family play park, is moving into the former JoAnn Fabrics at 715 Hebron Parkway in Lewisville. Construction is set to begin May 1, with completion targeted for the end of October. The concept focuses on active indoor play for kids and families, a welcome addition for rainy-day and summer-heat options in the area.

The Hebron Parkway corridor has been quietly filling in over the past year, and this one puts a big box back to work as a family destination instead of another strip of dark storefronts.

🐾 Meet Vino

Adult 3-8 years, American Staffordshire Terrier & mixed breed

Somebody left him outside a store and kept walking. A neighbor noticed, picked him up, and brought him in to the city shelter. His name is Vino, he's a 52-pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix, and he's landed at the City of Lewisville Animal Shelter looking for a fresh start.

First impression can fool you on this one. Vino has a tough exterior and gets vocal when something new or loud throws him off, but give him a minute, a little reassurance, and a treat or two and he settles right down.

With other dogs he's friendly but a bit assertive up front and slow to warm up to new faces, so a home without other pets is probably the easier setup, or at least a careful meet-and-greet before anything is finalized. He came in without a history, so the shelter doesn't yet know how he does with kids, cats, or whether he's housetrained. Patience for the first couple of weeks while he learns a new routine will go a long way.

Vino is already neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home the same day. Adoption is $90 and the shelter takes walk-ins. Head to 995 E Valley Ridge Blvd, ask to meet Vino, and see how you two get on.

🏞️ Doubletree Ranch Park

Source: Phillip Chang on Google
310 Highland Village Rd, Highland Village, TX 75077

What it is: A 36-acre free park off Highland Village Road that a lot of folks drive past without ever pulling in. Picnic pavilion, fishing pier, soccer fields, a splash pad, playground, butterfly garden, and nearly a mile of smooth trail that loops beneath towering pecans and live oaks. The splash pad doesn't open until Memorial Day weekend, so right now the park has a quieter, pre-summer feel.

What to expect: Late April is the sweet spot. Dogwoods are still hanging on, the trail canopy is in full leaf, and the breeze under those old pecans keeps it comfortable well into the afternoon. Bring a fishing rod, a stroller, or just a blanket and claim a shaded picnic table.

Cost: Free. Parking, trails, playground, pavilion, fishing pier, all of it. (Splash pad opens Memorial Day weekend.)

Timing: Park open daily. Early mornings are peaceful, weekday afternoons fill up when school lets out, and weekend mornings are the sweet spot for playground time and an easy trail loop.

Plan around it: Free parking on site. Restrooms open during park hours. Weekend soccer can fill the main lot, so aim for mid-morning or late afternoon if you want space.

Bonus move: The Shops at Highland Village are a five-minute drive for lunch, coffee, or an ice cream stop to close out the afternoon.

This week: Jobs hiring now in Lewisville, Flower Mound, The Colony, Highland Village, Little Elm, and the rest of the lake area.

Nebraska Furniture Mart at Grandscape is year-round hiring at one of the largest home furnishings stores in the country. Sales associates, warehouse, delivery, customer service, and manager-in-training tracks. Same-day pay access, 401(k) with match, and a generous staff discount come with full-time roles.

Lewisville ISD is in full 2026-27 hiring push. Teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, nutrition services, custodial, and specialist roles across the district's 70+ campuses. LISD offers one of the strongest health benefit packages for school employees in the area.

City of Lewisville Parks & Recreation is hiring Summer 2026 lifeguards right now at Sun Valley Aquatic Center and Old Town Splash Park.
